I also Waze and carplay in my Audi Q3 car. Now the map is very small to read compared to my previous iphone 8. I have tried using two fingers to enlarge the map and it doesn’t work.

I tried everything including several tickets with Apple and sending my data to them.

I never found a permanent resolution.

When 11 was introduced I decided to do a trade-in mostly because of this issue.

I was like this can’t still be an issue a year later. Driving home yesterday the issue resurfaced.

It was tracking me up to 3 miles behind where I was located. I fear the next phone will not be an Apple product.

Now today (Sunday) jumping all over the place, tried Waze, google & apple map apps. Reset, turned on & off location etc.

Did complete wipe in case it was software glitch in my back up. Hopeless.

Brand new phone and no working GPS…. taking it back this week.

Back using iPhone SE, working fine, pocket-size, don’t know why I wanted to change

Hi William,

I am so sorry for your loss–we love our dogs too and losing one is always difficult and painful.

I hope the Apple Genius is able to figure out what’s going on! Make sure they run diagnostics on your device and let them know all about the symptoms you’ve experienced.

The more information you can provide Apple’s tech team, the better!

Good luck and you (and Arrow) are in our thoughts,

Liz

Thank you young lady.

Called apple support conversed with the worst apple CSR–ran me around for almost 30 minutes, this is way out of the norm for Apple, my review of her was less than optimal.

This happens sometimes and is a rare occurrence.

Called back and found a wonderful caring young lady, have an appointment with the store close to me in Southlake Texas on Friday the 13th, lucky I am not paranoid about like days like this but may have to check my horoscope, LOL.

I believe Apple will be good to me they have been great, and I trust them.

I appreciate you so much thx for your time consideration.

I love you as a person just not in love with you, I am very old. Please have a blessed life and thank you. it has been a bad day my 2-month puppy Arrow passed from parvovirus had the only week, I am lucky to have her for one week, and now life moves forward, and all will be good in time 🙂

Hi William,

Sorry that it’s still not working as it should! Yes, that is super frustrating–especially when months ago it was working and accurate.

We’ll keep looking into this issue with CarPlay (esp. on Ford cars) and if we find anything else to try, we’ll let you know.

Keep well,

Liz

I seriously doubt that Sir.

I have only been with Apple iPhone for maybe 2 years plus and the watch.

they have been great products, and the company has always been great with me.

I received my first phone by accident, my CPA had one his wife did not like an iPhone 6+, He is also my best friend, so he gave it to me when he was doing my taxes.

I guess you might say I am now an Apple fan for a long time in the future.

Thank you Liz, everything on my truck is stock, I am 68 I didn’t even modify my cars in High School, LOL.

I am experiencing higher false speeds when using Car Play, although they are still high.

Silly but before Feb 19, 2019 it worked perfectly.

On your point #3 I have done this and many other modifications before I read this article and nothing had worked so far.

What is really hurtful is these app makers, and especially FORD Motor is taking no responsibility, but that seems the way of the corporate world in today’s environment, in my younger years this was not the way companies worked.

This is more than frustrating.

I have used rule out theory, to find out is what is wrong, and I am down to about 4 potential problems that I cannot narrow down anymore.

Liz thank you I appreciate your input.

I have a 6S that has worked flawlessly until this new iPhone came out!!

Hi William,

Sorry that your speed is not accurate when using GPS and maps apps.

Are your tires the standard-issue or larger/smaller than standard? Other readers report similar issues and determined that tire size impacts the rendering of speed for vehicles.

Readers also note that Ford’s CarPlay appears to have a lot of issues with speed rendition when your iPhone is hooked up to CarPlay.

Try force quitting and re-opening the maps app without connecting to CarPlay, and check if the speed in the app now matches your car’s speedometer.

You could also set-up an appointment with Apple and request they replace or repair the GPS in your device–present them evidence of the problems and they might do it for free as part of a customer quality and satisfaction “warranty.” It’s always worth a try if you live near an Apple Store.

Good luck,

Liz

And it has to do with Actual Speed I am driving.

The above apps are showing speeds much more than I am actually driving Ford F150 speedometer, Escort radar unit is dead on, even after market truck computer is right.

All the speeds are running high and it is a sort of geometrical progression from lower true speeds up to higher speeds.

For example, true speed Waze was 75mph Waze showing 102mph, about the same with google and escort app.

With the escort app did an extensive study for them and comparative analysis of speeds using Bluetooth on and off.

gave it to them for their app developer to try and fix, and Escort has refused to communicate me since.

And is blaming it on APPLE iPhone GPS problems, they also keep asking me to the exact info over and over again, running me around in circles.

They will not even respond to me anymore.

It was working fine on Feb 18-2019 and on Feb 19-2019, and it started going wacko.

I have changed OEM apple USB cables many times. most of the time the speeds are high with the above apps. sometimes if I take the USB cable out and plug in the apple play USB receiver in the dash it works well for a short period of time, then back into wacko mode.

Ford replaced the APIM for sync 3, and still problems.

I have done all possible reset options for both Sync 3 by ford & its APIM. I have every possible reset on the latest release of my iPhone max bought in November 2018.

Called Ford Corporate and no help whatsoever, I would have got a better response if I had to talk to the STOP SIGN at the end of my street lol but this is not the way FORD used to work.

Obviously, I am a bit angry about everybody running me in circles and the customer no service and blaming it on others.

What do I do?

Currently, Apple Maps will work but be behind most of the time.

Google Maps, completely unusable. If this continues might have to leave the iPhone entirely.

Going through these steps likely won’t help if your antenna actually needs to be replaced.

I still experience GPS issues on two iPhone 8s running iOS 12.2. After extensive testing, and with the help of an app called “GPS Diagnostic”, I was able to figure out that the iPhone 8 has very poor GPS reception. There are locations in my car where the iPhone 8 receives no signals from the GPS satellites. This is only the case when the car is running, which makes me think the iPhone has very poor RF rejection regarding GPS reception. The car’s RF noise is enough to stop GPS reception in certain locations in my car. With the help of the “GPS Diagnostic” app, I have found a location in my car that gets good reception and my GPS problems have been solved. I am though very unhappy about this situation. I paid $599 each for these iPhone 8s. In this same car, in the same location, I have successfully used two hardware based GPS systems and three smartphones. One smartphone only cost $100 and another cost $150. All five of these devices had great GPS reception in the same car and same location. This tells me that the iPhone 8 is a very low quality product. GPS reception is a very basic and important feature and clearly the iPhone 8 has low quality GPS reception.

Hi DJ,

First, try changing Google Maps location services to while using the app instead of always.

Go to Settings > Google Maps > Location

Change its permission to While Using the App for Allow Location Access

Go back to Google Maps settings

Turn off Motion and Fitness and Background App Refresh

Then open the Google Maps app, and tap the menu icon (three bars) in the upper-left

Tap on the settings icon (gear or cog icon)

Scroll all the way down the settings menu to About, terms, & privacy

    tap on Location data collection

    toggle this off

Restart your iPhone 8+ by powering off, waiting 1 minute, and powering back on

If that doesn’t help, try using Low Power mode to limit Google Maps access:

To Turn on Low Battery Mode on iPhone;

    Open Settings
    Tap on Battery
    Turn On Low Power Mode

Hope something here helps!

I have an iPhone 8+ and since I upgraded to iOS 12.2 whenever I use Google Maps for GPS guidance, it burns through my phone battery.

I had 98% on my battery, used GPS for a 30-minute drive and my battery was drained down to 68% and the phone was hot ( no it was not in the sun).

Any ideas on how to fix that?

Jeff, Try and Reset Location Services as well as Network from Settings > General > Reset. Please make a note of the wi-fi name and password et al before you reset since you will have to re-enter them once your iPad restarts.
